Slam Poetry for a Cause

AST was featured in the April 16th issue of the Washington Square News, NYU’s student newspaper!  Kudos to Rachel Abrams, who planned this event and to all the sisters who went.

“Poetry slam is like family,” Alpha Sigma Tau sister and slam poet Rachel Abrams told the audience. “If you hear something you like, you snap, you stomp your feet, you do whatever.”

[....]

Alpha Sigma Tau and Alpha Epsilon Pi co-sponsored the event as part of the Greek Week festivities. All of the proceeds went to VH1’s Save the Music campaign, which raises money for public school music programs.

Caitlin began writing at age nine, with a chapbook of Christmas poems acclaimed by Ms. Terry, her fourth grade teacher. Fourteen years later, she uses her background in anti-racism work, disability advocacy and youth empowerment to propel carefully crafted poems on the human experience.
